Set in the picturesque wine-producing valley of the Bottelary Hills, Hazendal is one of the oldest and most beautiful wine farms in the Stellenbosch area. The Merlot vines planted in 1995 are now well established and combined with Ronell Wiid's winemaking skills have produced an impressive wine combining New World richness and European sophistication. Inky dark red colour and wonder-fully complex aromas of damson, black cherry, cedar and cigar box with notes of mint chocolate and vanilla spice. Supple, velvety ripe bramble fruit flavours and smooth chocolatey tannins. Gently spicy finish with an attractive aromatic lift. Delicious now but can be kept if you can resist its charms.
